Every year, as the end of September approaches, I find myself looking forward to a different kind of autumn getaway. The excitement of summer gradually fades, the weather becomes cooler, and the leaves begin to take on warm, beautiful colours. I have grown increasingly fond of planning short family trips during this time of year.

Rather than rushing from one tourist attraction to another, I prefer exploring a destination at a relaxed pace and creating meaningful memories with my family.Recently, I have been turning my attention to Efteling in the Netherlands.

More than just a theme park, it feels like a magical world where fairytales, natural landscapes and exciting adventures come together. For visitors from the UK who enjoy family weekends away, short European holidays and child-friendly entertainment, Efteling is an appealing destination. Here are four experiences I would particularly love to enjoy.

1. Efteling Park Tickets: The First Step into a Fairytale Adventure

For me, every memorable trip deserves an exciting beginning, and Efteling Park tickets are the perfect first step towards this adventure. I especially love the atmosphere of theme parks filled with storytelling and imagination. They allow adults to take a break from everyday responsibilities while giving children plenty of room to dream and explore.

I would be particularly excited to visit the Fairytale Forest and see how familiar stories come to life through beautifully designed settings and characters. For something more thrilling, I would add Baron 1898 to my itinerary.

Meanwhile, an attraction like Symbolica, with its magical indoor experience, seems perfect for the whole family to explore together. I love the idea of combining exciting adventures with heartwarming family activities, making the experience enjoyable for visitors of different ages.

2. Efteling Grand Hotel: Extending the Fairytale into My Stay

I have always believed that accommodation should be more than just somewhere to sleep. It can also become an important part of the holiday experience. What attracts me most about Efteling Grand Hotel is its location within the theme park, allowing the magic of Efteling to continue even after a day of exploring.

I really like the idea of enjoying a holiday without having to rush off somewhere else once the park closes. I can imagine returning to a comfortable room after a full day of adventures, sharing our favourite moments with family members and slowly unwinding together in the peaceful evening atmosphere. It sounds like a wonderfully relaxing way to end the day.

For UK visitors planning a special family holiday in the Netherlands, I think Efteling Grand Hotel is certainly worth considering. It naturally combines accommodation with the theme park experience, making the entire getaway feel even more memorable.

3. Efteling Bosrijk: Enjoying Family Time Surrounded by Nature

If the theme park represents excitement and surprises, Efteling Bosrijk is much closer to my idea of a peaceful holiday. Surrounded by woodland and natural scenery, it offers hotel rooms and holiday homes of different sizes, allowing families to choose accommodation that suits their group and travel plans.

I particularly enjoy this kind of nature-inspired getaway. I can imagine waking up in the morning to fresh surroundings and starting the day feeling refreshed. After spending time exploring the theme park, I would love to return to a quiet accommodation space and enjoy some well-deserved relaxation with my family.

Another feature I find appealing is Het Badhuys, the swimming facility at Bosrijk. I think this is a wonderful addition for families travelling with children. Even without a packed itinerary, there are still opportunities to relax, have fun and enjoy quality time together during the stay.

4. Efteling Loonsche Land: Experiencing a Holiday Where Nature Meets Adventure

I am also very interested in Efteling Loonsche Land because it offers a different style of accommodation that feels closely connected to nature. It features hotel rooms and holiday homes designed to blend into the surrounding environment, with distinctive settings inspired by trees, sand dunes and waterside landscapes.

Compared with staying in a busy city or a highly commercialised holiday resort, I much prefer destinations where natural scenery is part of the experience. I would love to spend time walking around, admiring the autumn colours and exploring the outdoor spaces with my family.

For UK travellers who enjoy walking, beautiful natural surroundings and relaxed family holidays, this type of accommodation has plenty of appeal. To me, the most special thing about Efteling Loonsche Land is that it allows a holiday to go beyond traditional theme park attractions, adding a sense of tranquillity and connection with nature.

Turning Fairytales into Wonderful Travel Memories

After exploring these options, I have realised that what truly makes Efteling special is not simply its wide range of attractions, but the way it brings together fairytales, accommodation, nature and family entertainment.

From the magical adventures at Efteling Park to the comfortable stay at Efteling Grand Hotel, as well as the natural surroundings of Efteling Bosrijk and Efteling Loonsche Land, each experience offers a different kind of enjoyment.

If I were planning a family trip to the Netherlands at the end of September, I would want to leave plenty of time in the schedule rather than rushing through every activity. I would much rather explore the surroundings with my family, appreciate the scenery and enjoy each moment together.

For me, Efteling is more than just a travel destination. It represents an opportunity to rediscover the joy of everyday life, embrace a little imagination and create wonderful family memories. I look forward to the possibility of stepping into this fairytale world one day and turning all those imagined magical moments into reality.
